About Us

The Georgetown Center for Trauma and the Community is focused on improving the mental health of low-income women and their families in the Washington DC area who have been exposed to very stressful and traumatic events, like physical and sexual assault and abuse, life-threatening accidents, violent loss, and immigration-related trauma. The Center for Trauma, housed in the Department of Psychiatry at the Georgetown University School of Medicine and sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health, addresses this issue by fostering research that focuses on how to deliver low-cost mental health interventions that are effective in primary care and social service settings with low-income clients.
